Inviting people to tie White Knots with you is a great way to get your friends and family involved. With six people you should be able to create 300 White Knots in about two hours. And it's the perfect opportunity to discuss Marriage Equality and why it's important to you.
There are many things you can do with the Knots you make:
- Take them to the next Marriage Equality event and hand them out
- Hand them out at the next meeting of any group of which you are part
- Take them to work, school, and your place of worship and use them to start conversations with people
- Mail them to friends with a note telling them why Marriage Equality is important
- And keep a few for yourself so you can pin one to every outfit

How many white knots did we manage to tie? Exactly 1,138, the number of rights, benefits and legal protections identified as available to those who are allowed to 'tie the knot' in this country. That is, of course, 1,138 rights unavailable to those denied civil marriage equality.
And what happened to all those white knots? We handed them out in fistfuls to the volunteers, of course, then we placed them in several businesses, along with paperwork explaining their purpose. And, of course, we wear them everywhere we go. We've made arrangements with an upcoming music festival coordinator to have all musicians wear a white knot while performing, and we're looking for ways to send them out to groups.

We had a guest lecture, a openly gay political scientist, who lecture on the importance of the word marriage in comparison to civil unions and domestic partnerships, as well as how gay marriage can be achieved in states like Alabama and the many others that have constitutional bans.
