Genre Valentine's Day Party Feburary 12, 2009 - New York, NY

In a free society such as ours, freedom should always be the default state. The 14th Amendment’s clause "equal protection under the law" was not qualified with “heterosexuals only,” was it? Hundreds of thousands of gay couples have undergone real suffering because laws have not recognized their long-term relationships. Everyone has his or her own voice, style, personality, and love for someone. Whether that love is for the different gender or the same, this difference makes the world go round. Never before has mainstream culture been as primed to grant full marital equality to same-sex couples as it is today.

I was pleased that Genre Magazine was able to be part of the dialogue during our recent Valentine’s event in New York on February 12th—with over 300 knots being handed out in support of Marriage Equality week. We look forward to continuing to invest in a fairer and more equal society—especially, as more and more people realize that lesbians and gay men are closely woven into the fabric of our society. Separate-but-equal is still ‘separate.’
